Regular readers of my blog will know that last month I received a shipment of goodies from Em Cosmetics. Whilst I've only reviewed one of the pieces thus far, I thought it was about time to expand on some of the other bits and pieces starting with The Great Cover-Up.
As I've mentioned before, all of make-up items from the collection have a wee story confirming who they're aimed at, given that concealer is a must have in every girls make-up arsenal it should be of little surprise that this is for the girl "who needs a little help after staying up all night," or in my case for the girl with nasty dark circles and redness around the eyes.
The concealer itself is available in 8 shades from fair/warm right through to deep/warm. As you can see, I opted for the fair/cool shade which I thought may be best for me as I have blue veins. I realise this may sound like gibberish but I have been advised ladies with green veins (check your wrist if you're not sure) have warm undertones whilst ladies with blue veins are cool hence my colour choice.
The concealer itself is a wee bit thicker than those which I'm used to using, however, please don't think for a second this means it's difficult to blend or that it feels heavy on the skin. It's really not difficult to blend at all.
The main things I would say are that a little goes a long way, and really will cover a multitude of sins. I use this under my eyes, over the lids and on any little blemishes which are peeking through my foundation. Secondly, even though the blemish is a little drier than the rest of my skin, I personally don't find this concealer clings to the drier skin. Finally, I would ALWAYS set this concealer with powder as this will ensure that it doesn't crease and that it will stick around all day!
To finish up my review, I'm sure you can imagine, a concealer which is designed to blend into the skin is pretty hard to swatch. Nevertheless I shall try, however, I've tried to do this at strength so you can see it! Above is my skin before.

I've always had rosy, blotchy skin, but as I'm getting older, it's getting blotchier. And not all over. Just in random, unfortunate spots. Like right between my eyes. A big red splotch. Extra foundation will cover it, but it wears off and there's that spot again. I haven't worn a concealer in years, but maybe it's time I invest in one. I was also thinking about trying a skin evener or spot cream to reduce redness. Have you ever tried or reviewed any of those? I don't even know where to start with this sort of thing.

DeleteThere are a couple of products I really rely on when my skin is misbehaving. One being the Murad Clarifying Clay mask which I've reviewed here: http://whatlauralovestoday.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/murad-clarifying-mask-review.html
However, whilst it's awesome and always calms my skin down if it's flaring up, it is obviously quite pricey. I also love the Origins Clear Improvement mask which always works just as well so maybe once-twice a week might help calm things down. It certainly did for me!
One other thing which I have recently discovered is the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo which Ad and I have been using as a serum in the mornings 3-4 times a week. This stuff is AMAZING, I've had nothing clear up my problem skin like this stuff does, I'm not sure if the formula is the same in the states mind you.
Oh, and before I forget, I don't know if you have this problem, but I always have red marks left over from nasty spots, I'm using the Khiels Microdermabrasion once a week, slowly but surely it's fading the marks!
I'm hoping this makes some sense and might help!
