Festive Nails ft an Essie Top Coat

Here's a fun and easy idea to make your nails looks a little more festive this season, it's an oldie but a goodie and it involves a glitter top coat. Like, duh, could I be any more obvious?

The top coat which I'm currently head over heels in love with is Essie's Summit of Style which is a gorgeous gold glitter which has both small and bigger chunks of glitter which creates the most beautiful effect on the nails. It almost looks like fireworks which make it perfect for the party season.
I've been pairing it with my favourite deep and dark shades like the one above from Nails Inc, it's called Tower Street and it's such a dark burgundy red, it almost looks black.
Over such a dark polish the glitter looks amazing and whilst the polishes were actually pretty cheap, coming in at £7.99 for the top coat, it creates the most expensive looking effect. I can't tell you how many women stopped me and asked me where I'd had my nails done (it was four and they were all in the queue at Gap on Black Friday but that's by the by). They were all pretty shocked when I told them they were done at home and just involved an awesome top coat which I'd picked up from Boots.
The distribution of glitter is really fantastic for a high street product, there was no faffing around, literally dip the brush and swipe away. One coat was enough to get the desired effect, I did a couple of swipes on some of my nails but in all honesty one was enough to get the effect which you can see above.

So there you have it, what are you waiting for? Go and grab yourself a glittery top coat and go crazy! You don't have to use a gold, there are silvers, rose golds, subtle whites and even reds available at this time of year, make the most of it.

How do you make your nails a little more festive? Do you rate the Essie top coats?

  1. I'm so pleased to hear that you were asked where you got your nails done! Isn't it great when you do it yourself, on a budget, and it looks like it's professionally done? I don't have much talent for doing my nails, so this is inspiring me to try this sparkly top coat. I love the look of it! I might do a pale pink nail with silver or gold flecks. Surprise, surprise, right? And you say there's rose gold? That sounds even better!

I've tried playing around with these sparkly coats before, and I think they're quite fun. I've tried it to decent effect, but I've also tried it and had it look like a little girl manicure. Please let practice make perfect. I keep trying, even though my fingers are usually a hot mess after each "manicure." I spend more time scrubbing off the excess polish afterwards than I do painting my nails.

You inspire me, Laura. I'm glad we've found each other. I can coach you through fashion, and you can coach me through beauty. Goodness knows I need the help!

I hope you and Ad have a fantastic Christmas! Can't wait to see your holiday outfits!

    1. I'm really not that great with my nails either, my cuticles are shocking at the moment, so dry and flaky. When I'm working, I'd be lying if I said I could resist the urge to pick them, I reckon it's an anxiety thing.

Glitter top coats, whilst a nightmare to remove, are such a great cheat to fab looking nails without having to spend a fortune. There are some fab top coats floating around at the moment, I've seen a super pink one in the L'Oreal stands over here which would be right up your street! Do you guys get Essie in the States? You must do!

Awwww, Liz that's such a sweet thing to say! I'm so chuffed we're both still here over a year on, it's crazy to think we've been chatting for over a year now. And yes, I love your fashion posts, I'm still taking little baby steps towards finding my style but I've come to realise that with little tweaks here, and some glitzy accessories there, I can make an old outfit really pop!

I'll be sure to pop some new posts up after the xmas break with our outfits and hopefully a ton of new beauty goodies. EEEEEKKKK, we're almost there now!
